Weiss Employees Remove Trash from the Oakland Estuary on California Coastal Cleanup Day September 2010 Joining more than 80,000 volunteers statewide, Weiss employees rolled up their sleeves and got to work on the 26th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, September 25, 2010. Weiss staff members combed the Oakland Estuary shoreline for trash as part of a Port of Oakland team that was 100 participants strong. The Port has organized volunteers to pick up refuse and recyclables along the estuary for the past 20 years. The team gathered and bagged an estimated 350 pounds of garbage from the estuary shoreline. The California Coastal Commission sponsors the event as part of an International Coastal Cleanup organized by Ocean Conservancy. Beaches and inland waterways were targeted up and down the California coast, from Mexico to the Oregon border. Since the program started in 1985, more than1 million people have participated.
