Remediation Technician

Mountain View, CA


Under guidance of the Field Operations Manager and/or Senior Remediation Specialist, the Remediation Technician will perform operation and maintenance activities at groundwater and soil gas treatment systems.

The position is based in Mountain View, California and requires travel to project sites, mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Air, soil, groundwater, storm water, and treatment system sampling;
  • Collecting field data with portable instruments including photoionization detectors, groundwater level and quality meters, field test kits, etc.;
  • Pilot-testing of remediation technologies including soil vapor extraction, groundwater pump testing, in situ bioremediation, etc.;
  • Repairing and troubleshooting remediation equipment;
  • Monitoring and oversight of contractors;
  • Assisting with stocking and coordinating maintenance of company trucks and field equipment;
  • Coordinating equipment and parts ordering and delivery;
  • Researching equipment performance, price, and availability;
  • Training field staff in sampling, remediation system O&M, and other field activities; and,
  • Inspecting field work by staff and contractors for work quality.

Accountability:

  • Maintain regular and clear communication with Remediation Specialist, Field Operations Manager, and/or Project and Task managers;
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and contractors;
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet deadlines are and arrive at appointments on-time; and
  • Pay attention to details.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years of experience on increasingly complex field sampling and remediation treatment system operation and maintenance.
  • Minimum high school diploma; formal mechanical or electrical training or certification preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in remote locations. Ability to bend, stoop repetitively, carry up to 25 pounds for a distance of 100 yards, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to traverse uneven or steep surfaces. Adequate visual and auditory acuity is required; corrected vision and/or hearing is acceptable.
  • Must be willing to remove facial hair if required to be fitted with a respirator. Must have respiratory capacity to work wearing a respirator.
  • Experience with mechanical (e.g., pumps, blower, plumbing) and electrical systems. System instrumentation and automation experience preferred.
  • California driver’s license and DMV record must be acceptable to Weiss’s insurance carrier.

Compensation - $30/hour - $45/hour; this position is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
